About Shambhu's

Shambhu's is a pioneering family-run, ethically-driven plant-based food business, run from London (UK), with the values of a social enterprise.

Our mission at Shambhu's is to demonstrate and educate about how great plant-based food can be. We do this through our two core activities:
    - Catering
    - Teaching

Vision

The vision for Shambhu’s came about when Nishma Shah, the founder, vegan chef and proprietor of Shambhu’s, realised in 2005 that she could contribute good quality, home-cooked plant-based food, inspired from cultures around the world, and made using organic, fairtrade and/or locally or UK-produced ingredients where possible.

Nishma & Mahersh

Nishma and her husband, Mahersh, are from the UK Jain community, and therefore have lived their lives immersed in a culture that embraces peace and compassion (ahimsa) to all life.

Through Shambhu’s, Nishma aims to demonstrate to the wider community (non-vegan as well as vegan) how diverse and wonderful vegan food really can be 🙂

Yes, Shambhu, a major inspiration behind Shambhu’s, is none other than the joyful, mischievous, loyal, positive-spirited black labrador who joined our family in 1998.

In fact, Shambhu passed on into the spirit world in 2009, having graced us with eleven wonderful years in his company.

Shambhu was born to a cocker spaniel mother at our neighbours’, and along with his then brother and sisters (they were a litter of six puppies), he found us and quickly charmed his way into our lives, and inevitably those of our friends and relatives, including new friends whom we probably would not have met had it not been for Shambhu Smile.

Typical of many companion animals, he was a positive force, infusing happiness in anyone who had the opportunity to meet him.  Completely co-incidentally, this is exactly what the name “Shambhu” means Smile.

As you can imagine, we have many fond memories of Shambhu, and we’re sure he’s proud of his compassionate catering business, and looking after it as best he can from wherever he is now Smile.

Shambhu is actually an alternative name for the supreme Hindu god Shiv. The name “Shambhu” (or “Śambhu”) carries the meaning “abode of happiness” / “causing happiness” / “giver of joy”. Etymology: from Sanskrit “śam” meaning “auspiciously” / “happily”, and Sankrit “bhu” meaning “being” / “existing”.
